Amalgam (silver) or Composite (white) Fillings

Our office provides our patients with a choice between amalgam or composite (resin) fillings.

Amalgam fillings used to be the most commonly placed restorations in the dental office. Amalgam contains a mixture of mercury with at least one other metal. They are low in cost, easily placed, and very strong and durable.

Composite fillings, also called resins or “white” fillings, are types of synthetic resins that have become more popular in recent years. Composites are as strong as amalgam restorations due to new technologies and stronger curing lights.
